Theatre Turnings presents an English-language stage adaptation of Arthur Schnitzler’s acclaimed novella, Miss Else (La signorina Else). Designed to engage and welcome the region’s international and expatriate community, this production offers a perspective on one of literary history’s most compelling female characters through a blend of dramatic theatre and contemporary dance.
Set in a luxurious Swiss hotel, the narrative follows Else, a young Viennese woman from high society. Upon receiving an urgent letter from her mother detailing her family’s impending financial and legal ruin, Else is forced to seek assistance from Mr. von Dorsday, a wealthy family friend. He agrees to clear the family’s debt, but imposes a devastating condition.
Through a dynamic structure of internal monologue, movement, and physical theatre, the performance explores themes of autonomy, isolation, and gender dynamics. The production builds toward a dramatic conclusion.
